You may think what you’re feeling is silly or childish, but it’s still worth exploring. Sometimes what we feel doesn’t always match with reality, and that’s okay! But we can never learn that if we’re too ashamed to express ourselves and learn from our mistakes.

Prioritize Your Health

Speaking of mood, your overall health plays a large role in how you feel. Without good health, it’s nearly impossible to be happy in life.

When you don’t take care of your mental and physical well-being, your emotions tend to suffer. If you feel overwhelmed or tired all the time, you won’t have the energy needed to handle various situations, which may result in a negative reaction.

Everyone’s health needs are different. Generally, prioritizing your health involves:

  • Making sure you get enough sleep
  • Eating healthy balanced meals
  • Exercising regularly
  • Limiting your time in front of a screen
  • Getting social support from friends/family whenever necessary

Surround Yourself With Quality People

Highly sensitive people tend to connect with others easily. However, you need to make sure those people are high-quality.

What makes a person high-quality as opposed to toxic? Well, the best way to spot the difference is by how they make you feel. Do they encourage or discourage your emotional growth? Are they easy-going and understanding towards your sensitivities, or do they tend towards being dismissive? Can you feel free to express your feelings without feeling judged?

If you feel like the people around you are holding you back, it might be time for a change. There’s no shame in going against the crowd and making new friendships with more supportive individuals.

Recognize Control is an Illusion

If you tend to sweat the small stuff, remember this: You are not in control.

That sounds pretty New Age and trippy but stay with me. When you get in your car to start your engine, why does it start? Does it start because you MADE it start? Or does it start because every mechanical part of your vehicle aligned just right to make it possible?

What I’m getting at is there’s no point in getting upset about things that are out of our control. Because, technically, EVERYTHING is out of our control.

You may have just taken your car to get inspected and been told it’s fine. The next day? It completely falls apart. You can’t prepare for every possible bad scenario, so there’s no use stressing about what’s out of your control.

It should be so simple to stop being insecure in a relationship, right? Sadly, though, it’s one of the most common things that ruin them.

Whether it be insecurity in oneself or just being insecure about a partner, insecurity can quickly turn a relationship sour.

So, what should we do about it? Here are four ways to stop being insecure in a relationship.

Identify It and Be Honest

The first step in dealing with negative emotions involves honesty. You won’t get anywhere if you can’t admit the truth. Your partner can’t read your mind, no matter how strong your bond is. That’s why it’s important to be able to immediately recognize what you’re feeling.

So why does this happen? I’ll tell you.

9 times out of 10 we don’t express our expectations. We imply them. We expect our partners to know exactly how we want to be loved, respected, and nurtured. If they don’t automatically pick up on our love language, we assume they never will or that they have no interest in doing so. Except (and I had to learn this myself), this isn’t like a movie.

Prince Charming doesn’t swoop in, save you, and then you both live happily ever after with no problems. Sometimes, both of you are gonna get it wrong. That’s okay!

But instead of throwing your hands up in the air, consider expressing your expectations instead. If you expect your partner to contribute to household chores WITHOUT being told, express that. Want your alone time when you get home from work? Express that. Feel like your partner should step in regarding an in-law overstepping your boundaries? Express. It.

You can’t always will something to change. You have to speak up.

Lastly? Time…

No one said finding a way to stop being insecure in a relationship was going to be easy. You’ll feel exhausted some days as you continue to work through your emotions together.

But are you really going to feel any better if you wait? Is having a mountain of tasks and little time to do them any better? Even though you’re tired, find the time to complete your list. Waiting doesn’t make it easier. It makes the tasks seem bigger.

Sometimes, your biggest roadblock involves simply getting started. That previously-mentioned momentum doesn’t come out of nowhere. You have to get up and get on it! So, how do you get on it? Remember your list and the idea behind the list.

For example, instead of thinking “I have so much laundry to do” think “Let me load the washer.” Once you’ve done that, the hardest part’s over! Now, just use the momentum to finish your overall goal.

Be Patient

Legend of Zelda: Sin of Sheikari “Prologue”

When evil ruled all, an awakening voice from the Sacred Realm would call those destined to be Sages, who dwelled in the five temples.

Long esteemed as attendants of the royal family of Hyrule, the Sheikah spoke of many ancient legends. They were an old, secretive people, their crimson eyes and gray hair denoting their heritage and wisdom. It was no surprise then that Impa had foreseen Ganondorf’s attack on the castle and spirited Zelda away to a remote hideout, an abandoned village on the outskirts of Hyrule. The knights, noble and steadfast as they were, wouldn’t be enough.

Perhaps Impa knew there was little of chance of the royal family’s survival without the Ocarina of Time, the key to opening the Door of Time that led to the Sacred Realm. Zelda had given the ocarina to the boy from the forest, a parting gift for his journey to another realm.

He was to return one day, a champion ready to save Hyrule from the King of Evil. The awakening call would summon the Sages, who would lend their power to the Hero of Time and fell Ganon once and for all. Hyrule deserved that peace. Zelda’s prophecies had shown her as much.

Seven years later, there had been no awakening call, just as there had been no Hero of Time.

Zelda etched the fact into her mind as she slipped into her tights. She carefully wrapped her chest and torso, binding it so that she could move more freely in combat. She looked down at her hands, noticing that less than half of her fingers were wrapped in bandages now. Her training was going a lot better, though Impa constantly reminded her she had much to learn if she wanted to survive a fight against a trained Sheikah warrior.

She sighed, allowing the breeze to sweep her hair across her face. It still smelled faintly of wood and fire, something she’d never grow used to. Princesses didn’t wear bandages on their fingers. They didn’t jump from trees or collect bruises from sparring matches with their caretaker.

Yes, it was true she wouldn’t survive a fight with a Sheikah warrior. Her destiny was to lead the Sages in battle, after all, but that was before the Hero’s disappearance. She wasn’t just a princess now, and she’d have to be resourceful, using every single skill at her disposal. To defeat her adversary, she’d only have her magic, the techniques Impa had taught her, and her cunning.

It would all have to be enough.

She plaited her hair into a tight braid, tucking it into her hood before wrapping her head in an enchanted cloth designed to disguise her appearance. To everyone else, she’d have red eyes and a masculine physique, resembling a trained Sheikah warrior. They’d hardly suspect she was anything close to royalty, and she needed that advantage. Yes, the people of Hyrule would need to know she was still alive, but not yet. She couldn’t be recognized until the time was right.  

Ganondorf would be the first to see her face before she destroyed him forever.

She paused before clenching her fists as the memory flashed in her mind. Her father, King Arwulf Ramuleese Hyrule, prepared to banish Ganondorf from the realm. The royal guards surrounded him, each with a spear pointed at his throat, but the dark wizard merely smiled, as if it was an amusing inconvenience.

“You may banish me today, but I will return for my throne.”

There was such malice and arrogance in his voice, as if he was confident no one in the room could defeat him. The guards inched their spears closer, the tips now prodding against his green skin. Still, his gaze didn’t break, eyes the color of gold and filled with hatred. A young Zelda shivered as she ducked behind her father’s throne. The king grunted before speaking.

“You will have nothing, and you will be nothing.”

Ganondorf chuckled, as if completely unaware of the spears ready to end his life in mere seconds. “I have as much of a claim to this kingdom as you do.”

The guards scoffed in unison, instantly offended by the madman’s words. How could such an evil man dare to say such a thing? What claim could someone who wanted the Triforce for nefarious deeds have for Hyrule? He couldn’t be serious! The king rose to his feet, staring down at Ganondorf with nothing short of disgust.  

“A vile creature like you could never rule Hyrule!” he hissed through gritted teeth. “You would only bring the Goddess’ chosen land to ruin!”

Ganondorf’s hateful glare softened into a confident smirk, but he remained completely still. “Chosen land, you say? Would that include the Shadow Temple?”

The king scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. Zelda scrunched up her nose, also confused. She’d heard of the Shadow Temple. Impa told her the Sheikah guarded it, and the Sheikah were protectors of the royal family. Of course the temple was part of Hyrule! What was this crazed warlock going on about?

“What madness are you speaking of?” asked the king.

Ganondorf sighed, closing his eyes. For a few moments, he said nothing, and the room went completely silent. It was an unsettling quiet, so unordinary Zelda thought she could hear Ganondorf breathing from across the room. He finally opened his eyes, seemingly satisfied with whatever conclusion he’d needed time to work out.

“I have been accused of many things today,” he spread out his arms, once again ignoring the spears as he gestured around the room, “but I am not mad. I wished to form an alliance between you and my people, yet you draw your swords against me. The Gerudo deserve a place in this kingdom just as the Gorons, Zoras, and others have established.”

The king slammed his fist against the arm of his throne. “You and the Gerudo deserve nothing! None of you pledged yourselves to the Golden Goddesses, the creators of this land! You worship the sand goddess and live as thieves and cutthroats.”

Thievery,” Ganondorf smiled as if the word tasted sweet. “You know much about thievery, don’t you? Yet, between the two of us, you are a much bigger thief, my king.”

The king roared, startling Zelda, who gasped much louder than she intended. Ganondorf met her gaze, those shining golden eyes burying into her. Pulling her in. Inviting her to breathe in his miasma and rage. No! She darted out of view behind her father’s throne, still able to see him but certain the guards were going to end the dark wizard right there, but Ganondorf raised his hands, signaling he meant no harm.

“I will depart from this place,” he said, “but I will also leave behind a sentiment. Light will always cast a shadow, Your Majesty. They are both eternal, and you would do well to remember the shadows.”

Zelda loosened the grip on her kodachi, sighing in frustration. She’d always suspected Ganondorf to be up to something, but it wasn’t until the boy from the forest, Link, had warned her that she built up the courage to alert the kingdom. Courage. Was that was she was missing now?

Link spoke about a different time, a tangent where Ganondorf succeeded in entering the Sacred Realm and becoming the owner of the Triforce of Power. Link wielded the Triforce of Courage, while Zelda wielded the Triforce of Wisdom. With the Sacred Realm turned into a place of darkness, new Sages awakened across the land. Zelda became the leader of those Sages and sealed Ganondorf away forever once Link defeated him. It was why Zelda had to defeat him now before he found another way into the Sacred Realm.

Because the Hero of Time was not going to save them.

Zelda gave Link the Ocarina of Time to aid him in his journey to find his friend, urging him to call upon the Goddess of Time should he face any trouble. She’d hoped he would soon return from where he’d ventured off to, but seven years had passed since then. She couldn’t hope anymore. She had to act.

She had to awaken the Sages herself.

“Seems like you’re going after all.”

Zelda didn’t turn to face Impa, knowing she’d been watching for quite some time. Instead, she continued to equip herself with everything she needed as her guardian observed.

“Hyrule can still be saved.”

She heard Impa sigh and knew she was shaking her head. She’d done it so many times since Zelda mentioned her plan to awaken the Ancient Sages.

“Will they even fight alongside you?” Impa asked. “You said yourself their slumber is meant to be eternal. If the Sacred Realm becomes endangered, then new Sages will be awakened.”

“There will be no Hero in this timeline.”

“You don’t know that.”

Zelda paused, clenching her fists again. It was the same argument time and time again. It had been this way for months now. How long did Impa intend for them to wait? Seven more years? A hundred? No. She had to set off now. She could no longer delay.

“Hyrule has been a realm of darkness for seven long years, and Link never returned,” she said. “I know that I have the power to stop Ganondorf, even if I can’t wield the Master Sword. I will not give up on my people, my father, my legacy.”

“No one said you were giving up,” said Impa, “but you must remember this: when something doesn’t want to be awakened, it’s best to leave it be. There’s a reason the Ancient Sages chose eternal slumber.”

“They were privileged enough to make that choice. I am not.”

Zelda reached for the Goddess Harp, gifted to her by her late mother, and began strumming it. Each note echoed as if being stretched across unfathomable distances. As beautiful, haunting notes filled the air around them, tendrils of green light erupted from the ground, swirling around her like leaves caught in a shifting autumn breeze.

“I will find the Ancient Sages,” Zelda’s voice echoed as the green light tendrils encircled her, obscuring her from view. “One in a deep forest. One on a high mountain. One under a vast lake. One within the house of the dead. One inside a goddess of sand.”

“Fine,” Impa’s voice stayed calm and patient, even in the face of Zelda’s defiance. “It’s clear I won’t convince you, but I have warned you, Zelda.”

“From this moment on, I am Sheik,” Zelda corrected Impa as her feet left the ground. “I will not reveal my identity until I confront Ganondorf.”

“Sheik,” Impa repeated the name. “A member of the Sheikah clan awakening the Ancient Sages. You’re certainly going to catch Ganondorf’s attention.”

Zelda turned to face Impa as she began to finally vanish.

“And when he falls to his knees before me, I will have caught so much more.”

It can be lonely being single, but why is it so hard to find a date? You’re not that bad looking, you have a great personality, and you’re really nice! So what’s the problem? Well, maybe it’s because no one wants to date someone who doesn’t want them back. Or something. If this sounds like you, then read on for some tips on how to change your dating life around.

It Really IS Them, Not You

Remember, it’s not really about you. They want to date someone who makes them feel good, and not the other way around. If your self-worth is based on whether or not people like you, then no wonder why it’s so hard for you to find love! You must first learn how to love yourself before learning how to share that love with others.

You need to be as attractive on the inside as you are on the outside. Your character needs to shine through in everything that you do, from your appearance and hygiene all the way down to how well-mannered you are when speaking with someone else. Make people want what they can’t have by being an awesome person!

Sometimes, We Intimidate Others

You can’t change your physical appearance much, but you could try being more approachable. Be open to talking with people and smile! You don’t have to go up to everyone in a crowded room or at the supermarket (unless that’s something that makes you comfortable), but if someone seems like friendly company then give them a chance!

If you have already made changes to your life, then share how it’s working for you. People are always more likely to listen if they can see that it works!

It’s Tough Until It Gets Better

Being single sucks, right? Having no dates this weekend AGAIN sucks! It’s not just the fact that you can’t go out on a Friday night and enjoy yourself without getting weird looks from people who think you should be in bed alone scrolling through Netflix (although it does suck to miss out on all of those pizza deals).

And don’t get me started about how much time is wasted when your friends are talking about their relationships or family drama – do they even care if you’re there at this point? Tinder is a great app for meeting new people. It’s also the worst dating app out there, and Tinder pickup lines suck!

We all know that no one wants to be rejected, but these pickup lines are just plain rude! Check out this list of the most ridiculous things ever said on Tinder and make sure you never use these lines.

“If you were Google, I’d type “What is your best feature?” in the search bar and press enter.”

Ew! Why would anyone say that? That’s just plain creepy! And it doesn’t even make sense to boot. Don’t use this line on anyone ever again…or at all for that matter. It’s absolutely disgusting!

“Can we get married right now? We can plan the wedding later if you want ¯_(ツ)_/¯ ¯_(ツ)_/¯”

This isn’t cute or romantic by any means; it’s actually really dumb and will probably leave them confused AF.

“Do you have any raisins? No. Then how about a date? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”

Raisins are gross, so this line is pretty awful too! It’s not funny or cute and will most likely get them to unsmile at best…or block your sorry butt at worst. Don’t use it ever again!

“I want to be the reason you scream “No” tonight.”

This is just plain creepy and will probably make them feel super uncomfortable, if not downright scared!

“Can I see a picture of your feet? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”

No one wants their feet shown on Tinder unless they’re in some sort of pedicure ad or something like that…so don’t ask for it because you’ll look stupid and get blocked by everyone who sees this message. It’s also pretty gross since we all know what people do with their feet sometimes (ick). Just leave them out of your messages altogether; most people don’t like talking about them anyway!

“I want to kiss you like the alphabet starts with “K”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”

If this is your idea of a joke, it’s not funny or cute. It also doesn’t make sense and will probably leave them wondering how exactly you plan on kissing them that way. Don’t use it again!

“Do you have a bandaid?”

No…why would I need one though? This line makes no sense at all and won’t get you anywhere. In fact, you might get blocked immediately after they read your ridiculous pickup line! Just don’t ask for a bandaid if there isn’t already blood involved!

It’s Tough Out There

Pink Sweat$ “Pink Planet” Album Review

Pink Planet offers listeners one safety net after the other. It’s hard to get angry listening to this album. Thankfully, it manages to charm way more than it offends, though its length may be a turnoff for casual listeners.

Pink Sweat$ (real name David Bowden) harnesses a unique superpower: kindness. From the onset of hearing his lyrics, we know what he’s about. There’s no unnecessary mystique or pontification. He’s a regular guy who wants people to be happy. It’s refreshing and completely needed in today’s musical landscape.

The Review

“Pink City” opens up the album with classic Gospel leanings a la organs and echoing background choirs. It’s an inspiring number with lyrics, “Yeah, it’s hard in the city. Where I’m from, mm. Tryna live, gotta make it. Make it out of the slum.”

“Heaven” is guaranteed to turn even the hardest grimace into a smile with its sugar-coated honesty. One of the standout tracks, Bowden soars when given traditional R&B production. Lyrics include, “It’s more than a thrill. I’m following what’s real. And don’t get mad when they don’t understand.”

Now to my favorite track from the album. Don’t be surprised if you hear me make a cover of “Paradise.” Pink Sweat$ shows he’s versatile when it comes to different musical styles. The acoustic track breezes through all the right places, and I still find myself pressing repeat on it constantly.

Notable lyrics include, “We fell apart too many times, yeah. But we always land back hеre some way, somehow. Whеn I close my eyes, I’m feelin’ so divine. It’s like paradise, paradise.”

“Magic” feels like “Heaven Part 2.” There’s nothing new or remarkable about it. Yes, it continues the album’s central theme, but it doesn’t feel…necessary?

Notable lyrics include, “And I don’t know what you did. But every time we touch, it feels like magic. It’s like magic, oh. I don’t know where we’re goin’. But every time, a cold sweat when we’re right here. When we’re right here, oh.”

We get just a wee bit naughty with “So Sweet” and its groovy guitar and lyrics, “Lay your head upon my shoulder, yeah. And tell mе all about your dreams. Don’t want no space between еach other. I wanna feel you all over me, yeah.”

My goodness! We’re already at third base, Bowden? Slow it down, my love! Otherwise, it’s another short but ultimately inoffensive track. I forgot it as quickly as I heard it.

“Chains” is probably my least favorite song, if only for its lyrics. Otherwise, I adore the melody and stripped back production. Still, I just can’t get behind these lyrics, “‘Cause baby, I’m a slave for you (Yeah, ayy). You got me wrapped up in your chains (Yeah).”

Yeah, you lost me there, buddy.

By the time we make it past the “Interlude,” the album starts to become a blur. “Beautiful Life” and “PINK MONEY” felt like the exact same song, and by the time “At My Worst” arrived I was struggling against a wave of sugar-induced nausea. Still, it’s probably the most quintessential Pink Sweat$ song on the album, so it makes sense.

The rest of the album offers more of the same, a standout being “Not Alright,” a The Weeknd-flavored banger that arrives too late. “Honesty” brings Pink Planet to a fully-realized nap, and I honestly feel conflicted on whether or not that’s a good thing.

Final Thoughts

Pink Planet’s mission is to delight and charm, and it accomplishes both in its first half. With a shorter track list, more variety in lyricism and production, and songs long enough to make a lasting impression, this could have been a much more solid debut.

Nevertheless, it leaves plenty of room to grow, and Pink Sweat$ showcases that he’s fully capable of personal and artistic growth. You don’t need to hear every song on this album to enjoy it, but I do recommend a listen.
